New York State Perinatal Quality Collaborative (NYSPQC) Projects

A set of projects focused on providing the best and safest care for women and infants in New York State by collaborating with birthing hospitals, perinatal care providers and other key stakeholders to prevent and minimize harm.

September 2010 to April 2016

Specific projects in this initiative:

Obstetrical Improvement Project–Management of Maternal Hemorrhage and Hypertension Initiative: Improving the identification and management of maternal hemorrhage and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy.

Obstetrical Prenatal Education Project: Improving documentation of patient education on the maternal and fetal risks and benefits of scheduled delivery without a medical indication.

Obstetrical Improvement Project: Improving birth outcomes in cases of preterm birth.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Central and Umbilical Line Associated Blood Stream Infection (CLABSI) Reduction Project: Reducing CLABSIs in NICUs through the increased use of central line insertion and maintenance checklists.

Enteral Nutrition Project: Reducing the percentage of newborns <31 weeks gestational age who are discharged from an RPC NICU below the tenth percentile for growth on Fenton scales for weight and head circumference.

Neonatal Project: Improving safe sleep practices.

Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Project: Increasing the proportion of newborns who are screened for hearing loss, have audiologic evaluation, and are enrolled in appropriate intervention services.

Served as a quality improvement consultant and content expert for the collaborative. Provided project management support as needed.

Patient Safety Bundles

From the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health. PSBs are collections of evidence-informed best practices that address clinically specific conditions in pregnant and postpartum people. The NNPQC helps provide TA and support to PQCs in adopting the core AIM Perinatal Mental Health Bundle.
