Our Mission

The National Institute for Children’s Health Quality (NICHQ) is an independent, 501(c)3, mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to driving dramatic and sustainable improvements in the complex issues facing maternal and child health.

A world where every child achieves their optimal health

We are committed to creating and promoting new approaches for lasting systems change to reduce health disparities, especially maternal morbidity and mortality, infant mortality, and improving care delivery for children with special health care needs. With the help of a robust network of exceptional and dedicated partners and subject matter experts, every day we move closer to our vision of a world where every child achieves their optimal health.

The National Institute for Children’s Health Quality’s vision is to create a world where “every child achieves their optimal health.” A commitment to optimal health does not guarantee children the same outcomes, but every child deserves informed care from professionals who are compassionate, open to learning, and dedicated to providing culturally competent, high-quality care.

2026 Strategic Plan

NICHQ’s 2026 strategic plan is an evolution in the direction NICHQ is taking to meet our long-term vision. Though always focused on the quality of healthcare, in 2020 we expanded our impact to the population health level. With our 2026 strategic focus, we acknowledge the role of families and caregivers of all kinds.

“We are a team of passionate and highly responsive experts and advisors who are wholly committed to pushing the boundaries on what is possible in order to make real and rapid change happen.”
