Awareness and Access to Care for Children and Youth with Epilepsy
WHAT: A project to improve access to comprehensive, coordinated healthcare and related services for children and youth with epilepsy residing in medically underserved areas.
WHO: The project engaged eight state teams from California, District of Columbia, Illinois, Mississippi, New Jersey, Oregon, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
WHEN: September 2004 to September 2008
FUNDER: The project was funded by the US Department of Health and Human Services Administration, Maternal and Child Health Bureau and conducted in partnership with the Epilepsy Foundation.
NICHQ'S ROLE: Facilitated a Breakthrough Series learning collaborative to apply quality improvement methodology to identify areas in need of improvement in the overall healthcare system for children with epilepsy. Developed a project “change package” (a package of tested changes that leads to improvement) and toolkit.
