WHAT: A randomized control trial to test the usefulness of a quality improvement intervention specifically intended to improve care and outcomes for patients with childhood asthma.

WHO: The project involved two cohorts of primary care practices (43) located in and around Boston and Detroit. The practices, in total, served 13,878 pediatric patients with asthma.

WHEN: From 1999 to 2003

FUNDER: The project was funded by the US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.

NICHQ'S ROLE: Led a randomized trial using a Breakthrough Series learning collaborative model.
